Nearly all US commercial drivers must use special equipment to record their working hours automatically. This is necessary to regulate the workload of transport workers. It has been scientifically proven that fatigue significantly affects the number of fatal crashes. Such equipment is called an ELD device. It has several features that enable accurate and automatic recording of information. The device connects to the engine of a commercial vehicle and stores driving data. The electronic logging device will automatically turn on depending on the speed or when the truck stops. The device is fully synchronized with the vehicle. All information is then transferred to the driver's logbook. Data can be provided for verification by representatives of government services. ELD has greatly simplified some of the drivers' tasks because, in the past, they had to keep many paper documents. However, manual records of working hours still did not guarantee high accuracy, and they were easy to forge. Modern ELDs are equipped with an anti-hacking system and do not allow data falsification.
